Livin' on Borrowed Time.

Hi all!

Well today is a gorgeous one! I got to start it out at breakfast with my dear Megan friend! I have loved getting to go to breakfast with her! Again, quickest way to this girl's heart is through the first meal of the day :) Like father, like daughter, I suppose!

Anyway...
I had a tour this morning scheduled for 11:00. I got there, and there were only 50 people in the session, and we had 6 tour guides! So three of us left.. including me! YAY! It was great to have that hour and a half back that I didn't expect! And on such a agorgeous day!

I know I've been missing adventure pictures etc! Staci and I are going to dinner at the Shake Shack (just SOUNDS fanastic, doesn't it? mm... shakes....) so I'll be sure to get some photo documentation of that!

Well! That's all I got! Make sure you go vote for Keith for sexiest vegetarian again, keep voting so he can win! (link on post from 4/21 called "Do this now!").

Have a GREAT Thursday!

PS> My Italian project is complete and performed and finished! My Public Service paper is handed in! Go team!

Workin' 9 to 5...

I got my schedule for next week at work!

From Wednesday to Saturday I'll work 38.5 hours....!!!!

Holy Crap!!!

I have to say, I'm going to be exhausted on so many levels, especially with no break after school... but I am SO PSYCHED! It is going to be so fun planning for the marathon!

If you want to learn about where I'll be working, go to the GOAL Foundation website!

You can also learn about the marathon that will be happening on the 6th of May! You can sign up to volunteer that day too, and if you do, you can work with me! Dream come true!!! Or... just really really cool. There are probably people you know running it, so you should come watch! There are lots of other events too, so COME!!!! Be a part of your city's event! And see your super cool friend Claire!!!

Ok, off to do homework... I'll be HOME, this time next week! :)

Just Wanted to Say...

I am soo tired! But... I wanted to give you all an update on the final project etc progress!

1- my Fiction portfolio, which consists of about 50 pages of writing, is together and will be handed in tomorrow!
2- my Public Service paper (thank you to my readers, yet again!) will be read over one last time tomorrow, and then printed up!
3- my reading of the Canto in Dante's Purgatorio tonight went well, got to bust out the Italian and my prof was pleased with that.
4- my last tour of the semester is Thursday! YAY!

And that's really all the updates. I still have lots more, but those are (#'s 1 and 2 on the list) the things that were most important to me, and the biggest things as well, so it is nice to have those guys conquered! Let's hope they go well!

Anyway... summer is near! THANK YOU GOD!!!

If You Would Be So Kind...

If you have a moment and would be so kind, would you go here and read the story that is posted and comment on it (constructive and detailed criticism) if you can! It's for my final writing portfolio that is due Tuesday (4/25) Thank you in advance! [and if not... I don't blame ya!]

ps...not my best writing, but ya know...

Pictorial: SuperFam!

We had some great times this weekend! Kelley was here for her soon-to-be sister-in-law's bachelorette party, and Ian got home Saturday night for a rest between tours etc! We really missed Gavin, Kim and Jay and Jayson, and of course our Tahiti-lovin' parents!

Here are some pictures of the fun that followed (basically just Dash picts, but ya know...)

Here's Super Dashy! According to Ian this is Dash "getting some major height"

Some terrible pictures of me, looking all tired and gross and rained on, but some DARLING little dash photos!

April Showers...

and brunch with Elizabeth and Kelley!

I'm hanging out with my sisters-in-law and it should be really great! After that I've got a bridal shower for Joanna, and then after that I think Staci and I are hanging out! Should be really fun!

School work is going well, just for an update even though you don't care...
The Public Service Beast has been tamed, overall. It is being read by lots of you, and I plan to have that in its final form by tomorrow night.

My porfolio for my writing class is slowly but surely coming along. That is due Tuesday and it has a LONG way to go, but I'm chippping away at it.

Also to update you, Miss Kentucky won the miss USA contest last night that was helt in Baltimore! Exciting!

Anyway, it's raining here and the contrast with the last few days of glorious weather is a little sad, but I can't complain because we've been spoiled lately!

Oh! And Ian gets in tonight! So maybe I'll get to see him for a minute or two (probably literally) at some point before he heads out again!

Alright, I'm not really saying anything. Have a good weekend all! And if you're reading my paper- thank you!

Pictorial: Easter Weekend.

Not a TON of pictures... but these are a few I stole off of Matthew's blog! :)

Mel and Matt at Corbin's Grill- if you haven't been there, you should check eet out!

Me and Matthew at the Bowlin' alley.

And that's about it... I really didn't take many pictures (or, I didn't take any...) but there you have them! HAPPY BIRTHDAY KEL!!!

Mandatory Civil Service.

Today we had a debate (in my Public Service class) about whether there should be a mandatory 1 or 2 year program for all people after they turn 18 (so 18-19 or 18-20 years old) that would require them to serve in an Americorps type program. To find out what Americorps is, if you don't know, go here.

So.. what do you think? There are pros and cons to each debate- don't forget that. It would increase civic engagement (studies show...) it would increase voting turn out, civic skills, job success, etc. But... it might be taking away 2 years of liberty a high school student has longed for! Anyway... just thought it might be an interesting one to put to the group... chime in!

Just a Note.

Just a note to say that I am alive and am doing pretty well!

Easter was great- hopefully I'll put p a picture or two from that later. Also- being back in NY for the last few weeks is great. The weather is fantastic, and homework is slowly but surely being done!

ANYWAY... let me know what YOU'RE up to! I'll post again soon with some substance!

La Pasqua.

Tomorrow I leave for Utah. Well, actually, it doesn't seem so much like tomorrow as it does today, because I leave in approximately T-minus 6 hours for the airport. Note: it is 10:30pm. Yeahhh. Awesome.

So.. I'll be in Utah from Thursday to Monday night LATE. And then back into the last 2 weeks of school... it's all over May 2. CRAZY.

I can't believe I only have 2.5 weeks of school left. And in that sense, i can't believe that I'm going to be going HOME tomorrow, and then coming back to finish. AHH! BUt I'm looking forward to celebrating La Pasqua- Easter- at home this year. Staci is in MD for Passover- it's kind of nice that we both get to be home for our respective significant holidays.

Well, not much going on here, but there's the happenings update for what it is worth!

I hope you all are well!

OH! and one last note... I sat out in the fountain in Washington Square Park (the fountain that does not have water in it, thus the sitting...) during my Italian class (love it when Profs do that...) and I actually got a little pink on my arms! PINK! YESS! And hey, thank goodness I was wearing my 20spf face lotion like I do everyday, or I may have gotten pink nose! Anyway... yay for the sun, but as we head into the summer don't be stupid: wear sunscreen and use fake tanner- don't fake bake yourself into an early old age. It's gross, it's dumb, and you'll regret it later when you're spending $50 bucks a month on wrinkle-smoothing face cream at 25....

Ok, dramatic, but seriously. You only really have one epidermal system.. take care of it. [and another side not to that, I found a Jergens fake-tanner lotion that is pretty good. Try the "for light skin" if you're pasty like me... it's pretty good and not streaky and like $5 for a whole thing of it... alternative to the fryer...]

ok... tirade over....and I'm OUT!

Advice for Your Week: Happy Dance.

Well hello!

I have emerged from my homework-hole to tell you this little snacket of advice! :::

I have a friend who, every morning just after waking up, does the happy dance.

You know, the happy dance?

Like jamming out to himself, usually to no music, looking like a TOTAL idiot!

Why, you ask? Because this gets him OVER himself. It helps him remember he's silly, can't control every little thing on earth, needs to relax, and physiologically creates endorphins that chemically make him HAPPY.

I was telling E this last night and she suggested that I put it up on the ol' Blog. And so here I am.

So, next time you wake up on the "wrong side of the bed" get up, do the happy dance, and get OVER yourself!

It's pretty fun, just trust me. Nothing like a good laugh at yourself in the morning to get ya ready for a monday!

Motor Skeeulz.

Dash is getting more and more control over his little hands. Below are some pictures, including some of him attempting to get the thumb in the mouth... you can see the look of determination on his face.

NO.

I would just like to say that I reject the fact that is snowing today.

I don't know if you can TELL from this picture, but it is a freaking BLIZZARD!!! WHAT???? It's April!!!!!!!!!!

Bleh. Actually, pretty hilarious. I'm sure I'll get a few good laughs out there as I forge the trail to class....

Input is Needed!

Hey all!

Things here are good besides the rain, but as they say, April showers bring those pretty May fleurs, so all is well.

What I need your help with, dear friends, is this: What is my major?

Funny, I know, that I don't even know what my major is. But more than that? Slightly depressing. I am facing registration in my immediate future, and sooner than that is my discussion with my advisor about my progress towards graduation and getting her clearance for registration. These are all good things minus that tiny little incy wincey little factoid I like to refer to as cluelessness. Ie, MY cluelessness in terms of my concentration.

Let's break it down:

So my concentration IS my major. But my major is something that I have COMPLETE control over. I am not pre-med, english, bio, linguistics, psych... I'm individualized. This is great, and cool, and fun... but I DO have to decide. So what I've been telling people for the last 6 months or so is that I'm doing "Italian, Writing, and Public Service." Well that is really neato, but how do those things relate?

See, instead of writing a thesis, I will have a colloquium. This is a 3-4 hour conversation about my concentration in which I choose 25 books that tie in to my concentration and then hash it out with my advisor and 3 other profs. Basicallly I justify my education. "Italian, Writing, and Public Service" isn't going to cut it: I need a STATEMENT, and I need to know how those things tie in.

So... what I'm currently grappling with is... what is my concentration? And more specifically, what classes am I taking next semester that are going to further my education in some kind of valuable direction? I've been brainstorming a tiny bit (in class tonight, mostly) and I have come up with these very vague ideas:

-How do people engage with their communities?
-How religion motivates service and/or writing

Those are two ideas. Neither of them is super great because they're pretty nebulous and out there... but that may give you an idea of where I'm going with this. I know that none of you can really say what I should do since you have no idea what I'm ACTUALLY doing out here, and what classes I'm taking etc... but if anyone has any good ideas in terms of THEIR college experience, what they find practical in the work place, or even what they think I MIGHT be interested in... lay it out there. I'd love to know. I'm looking for input from all angles here.

I know I've been kind of needy in terms of responses in terms of "what am I doing with my life" (which, thus far, only Kimber has obliged me with!! And many thanks to you for it!!!), but I really appreciate it and I am happy to reciprocate!

Also... if you are one of several people to whom I've not spoken or heard from in say... 5 days... please contact me. Paranoia is setting in, you know how it goes.

Love you all, thanks for reading... hope you'll comment! Thanks in advance!

Aprile: Punch Card Bliss.

Well hello all!

This weekend has been chalk-full of stuff going on! Worked a bunch yesterday, and Stac and I grabbed brunch too! We watched some movies and just relaxed last night. This morning I got up, worked for a few hours, and now I'm back to the studyin' before church!

I went to go get salad at a place called Cosi, and my purchase today was my 8th, so my next is free! YESS!!! Also, I noticed that my Got Coffee punch card is just behind (usually in front of actually, but now the Cosi punch is in front so I remember to use it!) and IT is full, my next purchase there will be free! Hooray! That's what I call punch card bliss!

This week is going to be a beast, but I think it will be rewarding in many ways, assuming that I can stay focused and really manage my time well. Should be interesting!

Anyway, that's really all I have to say except that I LOVE NEW YORK IN THE SPRING TIME! And I wish for all of you that at some point in your lives you'll get to live here in the Spring, and if not live, then at LEAST visit!!!
